Improving the stability of soil aggregates using soil additives and revegetation by grassland

Soil aggregate stability (SAS) is an important factor for soil quality and fertility. There are limited possibilities to influence this property, but one investigated method the application of additives which have potential improve SAS. We established a four-year field experiment on clay-loam Luvisol with poor structure monitor SAS following grassland revegetation. Treatments included: (1) untreated control; (2) compost; (3) biochar; (4) liming; (5) cattle manure; (6) woodchips; (7) woodchips + fungi inoculation; (8) pellets; (9) pellets fungi; (10) hydrogel (11) change arable land grassland. The lowest 23.39% average value was recorded control, then 23.92% lime treatment, highest 27.69% followed by 27.22% 27.02%. A significant increase more than 200% evident two years after trial’s establishment, also associated other improved physical chemical properties. Finally, while most our applied were relatively ineffective in agricultural practice, revegetation highly recommended its rapid stability.
